Do You Know the Difference Between a Good and a Great Agent?

Buying or selling a home involves contracts, deadlines, negotiations, and plenty of details—but for the people involved, it’s also personal. That’s one reason the agent you choose matters. Knowledge and experience are important, but so are communication, patience, dependability, and having someone who understands what the move means to you.

From a distance, real estate agents may seem fairly interchangeable. You really begin to notice the difference when you need an answer, something unexpected happens, or an important decision has to be made. That’s when responsiveness, experience, judgment, and the relationship you’ve built with your agent start to matter.

Here are a few qualities I think are especially important. You can find more information in this article.

  • Responsive & Attentive — You should never feel like just another name on a transaction file. A good agent listens, keeps you informed, and recognizes when something matters to you even if it seems small to someone else.
  • Committed to Your Interests — Every client brings different priorities, concerns, and circumstances. The advice you receive should reflect yours.
  • Knowledge & Experience — Experience matters not only when everything is going smoothly, but especially when it isn’t. Knowing how to communicate, solve problems, negotiate, and help people through stressful moments can make a real difference.

I hope our relationship never feels limited to the times when you’re buying or selling a home. There are plenty of questions, decisions, repairs, improvements, and changes that happen in between moves too. I want you to feel comfortable reaching out then as well, and I’ll keep sharing information that I hope makes homeownership a little easier and more enjoyable.

Before becoming involved in real estate every day, it’s easy to think the process is mostly about finding a house, agreeing on a price, signing some paperwork, and moving. There’s much more happening behind the scenes. And because the decisions involve your home, your money, and often your family, having someone beside you who understands both the details and the people involved can make the experience much easier.

And you never need to worry that a question is too small or that you’re “not ready yet.” If something about your home, the market, buying, selling, or the neighborhood is on your mind, call, email, or text me. Sometimes getting an answer is all you need.

Here are some of the things I’m always happy to help with:

  • Understanding what a particular property may be worth in today’s market
  • Making sense of current market trends in your area
  • Learning where buyers are especially active and why
  • Finding mortgage lenders, inspectors, contractors, and other professionals when you need them
  • Sharing local businesses, events, attractions, and resources that can make living here even better

Real estate may be the reason we first meet, but it doesn’t have to be the only reason we stay connected.

Being there when you’re ready to make a move matters to me. Being someone you can count on during all the years in between matters just as much.
