Happy 1st Home Anniversary!

One year in—and you’ve probably learned quite a bit about your home.

Happy first home anniversary! It’s hard to believe a full year has passed since closing day. By now, you’ve experienced your home through every season, settled into its rhythms, and probably discovered a few things about it that weren’t obvious when you first moved in.

That makes the one-year mark a natural time to give a little attention to the systems and features that have been quietly taking care of you. If you haven’t checked these recently, here are a few good places to start:

• Have your heating and cooling systems serviced as recommended
• Clean the dryer vent and check the exterior vent opening
• Inspect and test the sprinkler or irrigation system, if applicable
• Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and maintain or replace batteries according to manufacturer instructions
• Check windows and doors for leaks, damaged caulking, or worn weatherstripping
• Have wood-burning fireplaces and chimneys inspected and cleaned as appropriate

You don’t necessarily need to tackle everything at once. Your home itself can help tell you what deserves attention first, and keeping up with the smaller things can often help you avoid larger problems later.
