Happy first home anniversary! One year ago, you got the keys. Since then, you’ve had 12 months to settle in, make changes, discover favorite spots, create some memories, and turn the home you bought into a place that’s unmistakably yours.

That’s worth celebrating! And since anniversaries are great reminders, this is also a perfect time to give a little attention to the house that’s been taking care of you all year:

• Have your heating and cooling systems serviced as recommended
• Clean the dryer vent and check the exterior vent opening
• Give the sprinkler or irrigation system a seasonal check, if applicable
• Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and maintain or replace batteries according to manufacturer instructions
• Check windows and doors for leaks, damaged caulking, or worn weatherstripping
• Have wood-burning fireplaces and chimneys inspected and cleaned as appropriate

A little maintenance now can help keep your home ready for everything you have planned for year two—and beyond.
